The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm by
Jennifer Sonenshein with sincerest condolences to Eileen and Len Segel on the
loss of their beloved daughter Kim. Condolences also to Hattie and Vic Goldman
on the loss of their beloved son BenTzion who died in Israel last week..
The Treasurer's report followed along with an outline of the successful personal letter campaigns, as well as annual major gifts. Lisa Joseph's Fundraising Committee met today at 6:00 pm -- in attendance were Lisa Joseph, David Brenner, Elise Goldblat, Laurent Landau, Jerry Volk and Jennifer Sonenshein. The Paper Bag Players really did very well. They sold 242 tickets - 165 in the orchestra and 77 in the balcony. We all agreed that it was an extremely enjoyable performance, best suited to 2 to 8 year -olds The hospitality tables were beautifully loaded and there was a great display of the Purim baskets waiting to be picked up.- Laurent predicts that we will sell the house out completely next year, which means 650 tickets! The Purim Baskets sold briskly enough for them to run out of the food supplies, which was unfortunate. 20 to 25 more baskets could have sold at the theatre party and are being marketed now for other occasions, like a new home, birthday, new baby, etc. We have no final report as yet, but word is that there is lots of favorable "word of mouth". The Philadelphia Brunch is being held on Sunday, October 20th, 2002 at the beautiful Park Hyatt at the Bellevue with comedienne Linda Richman as special entertainer. The theme of this party is Kindred Spirits and in line with our successful photo gallery of FD patients, this time we would like family photos of FD loved ones, siblings, grandparents, etc. We will send out specifications, for photos to be submitted, 5x7 in size, color or black and white, for some collages on display. Jerry Volk has compiled a list of CEOs and of major companies and/or stores to be solicited for raffle prizes, gift items, etc. Please be sure to contact Jerry if you have any leads for auction items, trips, antiques -any and all kinds of collectibles. Special room rates can be arranged at a discount if a block of rooms are reserved, and we anticipate a smashing success. So please keep us in mind and send us your suggestions and ideas.. The Golf Outing date is Tuesday, June 25th, 2002 at the Meadow Brook Country Club in Jericho, NY. Steve Fass and Paul Wexler reported that they are diligently looking for "new" blood. A company sponsorship or an individual sponsorship would be wonderful. A special Journal as well as super VIP treatment would be forthcoming - besides the usual raffle prizes, goody bags, etc. Please ask around and call Paul or Steve with possible candidates to be approached. One good sponsor could add as much as $25,000 to $50,000 to the proceeds to say nothing of the enjoyment of the red-carpet treatment for everyone concerned. The price for players is going up to $600 with all other prices remaining unchanged. Letters will be going out shortly, instead of save-the-date cards, and we would appreciate your help in soliciting the sponsors, honorees, supporters, players, etc. to make this another sell-out affair. Laurent Landau reported on our research program - two research contracts have been duly signed and the initial funding has been forwarded. The other contracts are in the final stages of approval by the institutions and Laurent hopes to have the complete funding list ready by the next board meeting, along with blurbs for DYS/COURSE and our web site.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 pm. Respectfully submitted, Lenore Roseman Executive Director
