FD Day — June 10th, 2001

This FD Day surpassed all others. The turnout was excellent—about 300 people shared in an emotionally moving and successful day. So many people pitched in so that the day would be extra special: Lana and David Steiner for the two huge sheet cakes, Laurie Goldberger for all the balloons and festive glitter to add to the day, Mark and Lisa Joseph for the flashlights, the background music and magnets for the celebration of the gene. No words can describe the emotional feeling when the room was darkened, the song “For All The Things You’ve Done For Me” was played and the flashlights were lit. Dr. Axelrod, in time to the music, led the swaying of hands of an entire room. To Barbra Berg and Barbara Kietz for the PR folders, and to Carole and Bobby Goldberger for the toys to occupy the youngsters. They are always creative and special. Thanks to Steve Kietz for the printing of the new brochures. There are many people to thank and if we left anyone out—please forgive us.

Lenore Roseman, Executive Director presented Dr. Slaugenhaupt and her research staff a beautiful plaque, on behalf of the Foundation, in appreciation of not only finding the gene but for the 70 non-affected babies that were born along the way, thanks to their research.
