I am riding in the 3rd Annual Tour de Foliage Cycle Tour on October 8th to raise funds for Familial Dysautonomia (FD).  FD is a rare Ashkenazi Jewish genetic disorder that affects the autonomic and sensory nervous systems, which control all involuntary bodily functions.  Every physical function that we take for granted is affected by FD; problems with chewing, swallowing, balance, coordination, pain sensation, temperature sensation and blood pressure control are just some of the symptoms.

Because FD is so rare, funding for research primarily comes from reaching out to family and friends of those afflicted with the disease.  To that end, I am asking you to consider any level of support for my efforts to help raise money for FD research. Your support is greatly appreciated by me and by the families whose lives are forever changed by FD.  Thank you so much for considering this request.  To support my ride, please go to: www.fdcycletour.org and click on “Sponsor a Rider” and look for my name.

Dear Local Merchant,

On October 8th, the 3rd Annual Tour de Foliage FD Cycle Tour will kick off from Pace University in Pleasantville to fund research to find a cure for Familial Dysautonomia (FD). FD is a genetic disease causing dysfunction of the autonomic and sensory nervous systems. This means virtually every involuntary bodily function is negatively affected in people with FD. Blood pressure, swallowing, and pain sensations are a few of the functions that are dangerously compromised.

Our past two cycle tours have been highly successful, and we anticipate that this year’s Tour will be bigger than ever. All proceeds from the Cycle Tour go directly to the Dysautonomia Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting medical research into the disease. The Foundation is the primary source of funding for the Dysautonomia Treatment and Evaluation Center at NYU Medical Center, the only facility of its kind in the United States. In addition to the constant work done to improve and extend the lives of the children with FD, the Dysautonomia Foundation also raises funds and helps direct research towards finding a cure for this life-threatening disease.

Please help to make our event a success. Levels of sponsorship are:

Gold $500
Silver $250
Bronze $100

You can help in other ways as well. We are seeking donations of goods and services to be given out the day of the ride. A donation valued at a minimum of $100 will also ensure sponsorship status.

Please know that any sponsorship you can offer will truly be appreciated. To sponsor the event, please go to: www.fdcycletour.org and click on “Sponsor the Event”.

Thank you,
Sincerely,

Dear

On October 8th, the 3rd Annual "Tour de Foliage Cycle Tour - Ride For A Cure" kicks off from Pace University, in Pleasantville, NY. This high-profile bike tour raises funds for medical research to treat Familial Dysautonomia (FD), a rare genetic disease.

All funds raised support The Dysautonomia Foundation, non profit organization founded by parents of children with FD 50 years ago. The Foundation supports medical research and treatment for FD. People who have FD can't do a lot of things most of us take for granted. Virtually every organ that functions automatically in other people's bodies is negatively affected in people with FD. Chewing, swallowing, blood pressure control and pain sensation are just some of what is compromised by FD. Crying without tears is one of the most striking symptoms of FD.

The Dysautonomia Foundation funds two treatment centers to care for children and adults with FD, at NYU Medical Center and at Hadassah Hospital. The Foundation has sponsored research at the Molecular Neurogenetics Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital that developed carrier and prenatal tests and the discovery of the FD gene in 2001. Testing is now available to all Jewish couples to determine whether they are a carrier of the gene and at risk to have children who might have this disease. Our research is now continuing to discover better treatments and, hopefully, a cure. We are on the verge of a major finding with huge promise to alleviate the suffering of those afflicted with FD.

To make this event a success, we are seeking corporate sponsors. Levels of sponsorship are:

Platinum - $10,000
Gold - $5,000
Silver - $2,500
Bronze - $1,000

50 mile marker - $5,000 dollars
25 mile marker - $1,000 dollars
All other mile markers - $500 dollars.

To sponsor the event, please go to: www.fdcycletour.org and click on “Sponsor the Event”.

YOUR GENEROSITY IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Sincerely,
