About Ron Jacobs
I have known Dani and Sigal Eshet since the early 1990s, when we all lived in Los Angeles. They have been dear friends, and I feel fortunate that I have been able to see them so often since my wife and I moved to New England. Four years ago, as the four of us waited excitedly for the birth of our first children, I imagined their daughter Avigail and my daughter Sophia playing together, and growing up to be great friends. I still envision that same future, and I try to help Dani, Sigal, and Avigail in every way that I can. I am thrilled, then, to be able to compete in the 2005 Ironman Wisconsin, as a fundraiser for the Familial Dysautonomia Foundation.

The Ironman is a grueling event, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run. Preparing for such a race is in many ways an exercise in selfishness. Friends and family members have to accommodate a training schedule that takes up 20-30 hours each week, and an obsession about exercise that treats every moment of leisure as another opportunity to ride the bike or sneak out for a run. And so I feel fortunate to be able to focus my participation in the Ironman in a more altruistic manner, in order to support the important work being done by the FD Foundation.
